I need to replace the bushings in my ‘97 Safari/Astro van, as I posted earlier. I am trying to compare the cost of doing the bushings/ball joints myself, versus installing a complete replacement control arm. This is the only upper control arm I can find for this vehicle. Has anyone used Mevotech?

I hear really good things about Mevotech’s “Terrain Tough” parts. I think they’re gold w/green boots though, so that control arm is probably just their supreme/ pro-grade stuff, which is still supposed to be pretty decent. On par with Raybestos pro-grade, I think. The only Mevotech parts I would worry about would be their cheap original/service grade stuff.

Put their loaded control arms up front on my Subaru last year . So far, so good. Was also an updated design vs OEM which was nice. M ore communication from the road now which is obviously due to newer, stiffer rubber.

I prefer to go with the Moog “problem solver” line of parts.

Now if that brand is your only choice, I guess you have no choice if you don’t have a way of pressing in bushings yourself.

If your control arm is rust free and a new control arm is expensive, then consider the bushing replacement.

If there is rust on it, then just replace the control arm. I’ve had a control arm fail on me once.

You don't want to have a control arm fail..  trust me.

I’ve used them before - usually cheap as hell and decent enough quality.  You’re not getting MOOG, but usually better than parts store generic.

I assume I can get the bushings and the ball joint in ACDelco and there’s no rust on the existing arm, so will probably rebuild the uppers and use the AC ready-to-go lowers.

That’s cheap as hell for a brand I’ve never had issues with in a handful of uses. I would just go with those and avoid  the trouble of trying to rebuild.

It's tempting, but I'm going the rebuilding route. I may even try to make a crude YouTube video because believe it or not, the Safari/Astro is not represented on YouTube for this repair.
